CMC Markets Expands Its Offering with the Addition of Carbon Emission Trading

CMC Markets Plc, a leading global provider of online trading and institutional platform technology solutions, announced that it has extended the range of assets with the addition of Carbon Emission trading.

CMC Markets continues to add to its tradable universe with a total of 12,000 FX pairs, indices, treasuries, commodities, single stocks, cryptos and ETFs now on offer.

The newly added instrument is far from new— the idea of Carbon trading is said to date back to the 1980s and was pivotal in seeing lead removed from petrol—but the popularity of the asset has been propelled by the recent COP-26 summit in Scotland.

This underlined the action major governments around the world would take to ensure companies fully accounted for and offset their global carbon emissions. Given it looks as if there will be a significant lag in corporates getting to net zero emissions and prices have already trebled over the last 12 months, expectations are that activity in the market will remain brisk.
