Achieve Great Wealth with the Help of Psychic? Man Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison for Mailing Scam

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Monday (April 15) that a man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for committing a mass-mailing scam.

It is reported that the Canadian man stole $175 million from more than 1.3 million victims by committing mail and wire fraud, money laundering, and other crimes.

From 1994 to 2014, the criminal sent fraudulent letters to millions of U.S. consumers, many of whom were elderly and vulnerable. In the letters, he falsely promised to help people achieve great wealth with the guidance of "famous psychics". Once the first payment has been made, victims would receive more payment demands.

In these letters, the scammer claimed that the "psychics" have foreseen the future of the victims. In reality, there is no psychic involved in the entire scam, and all the mails received by the victims are basically the same in terms of content and format. Some of the victims sent money to the scammers dozens of times, losing thousands of dollars.

Over the past two decades, the fraudster moved and lived in several European countries and used shell companies he registered in Canada and elsewhere to cover up his scam.
