Anti-Scam Mascot Design Competition Launched by ABS in Singapore

The Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) announced on Tuesday (April 16) that it has launched an anti-scam mascot design competition, with the aim of encouraging more members of the public to join the anti-scam campaign.

The competition, which runs from April 16 to May 31, is open to all Singapore residents, both individuals and organizations, according to ABS. Prizes set for the top three are $10,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.

Ong-Ang Ai Boon, Director of ABS, said, "As banks, the police, government agencies, and community and grassroots bodies continue their efforts to educate the public on scams, we are looking for a mascot that will amplify these efforts and serve as a visual rallying point to unite families, especially children and youth, to ‘ACT against scams’."

"This competition is not just about designing a cute mascot. It is a call to action for creative minds of all ages to participate in the ongoing, whole-of-society, anti-scam effort, by creating a powerful visual reminder that inspires families to take charge and act against being scammed."

ABS wants the mascot is an image that evokes anti-scam awareness and embodies the values of savviness, alertness, and vigilance. It will be a visual reminder to consumers to "STOP and CHECK before clicking"

The association also said it hopes the mascot will convey anti-scam awareness to children, teenagers and the elderly in family scenarios.

The ABS will use the image in various anti-scam programmes of its member banks and promote it through various means such as production of animations, digital content and marketing collaterals (e.g., key chains, fridge magnets, plush toys, car decals).
