A sophisticated investment fraud leveraging deepfake technology and cloned media has been exposed, falsely claiming government support and endorsements from Indian national leaders and tech executives. Fraudulent platforms, including Google Invest, Go Invest, InvestGPT, and Cryptify Flows, have exploited the likenesses of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Infosys Founder Narayana Murthy, and his wife Sudha Murty to mislead investors.
The fraud campaign was initially spread through deepfake videos featuring Pichai. These AI-generated clips falsely portray Pichai endorsing a supposed government-backed initiative called Google Invest, promising returns exceeding ₹1 million per month on an initial deposit of ₹21,000.
Fraudsters also replicated the layout and typography of The Times of India, creating a fake article featuring an image of PM Modi that falsely claims official government approval of the investment scheme. Embedded links within the article mislead victims into visiting fraudulent platforms such as Go Invest.
Additionally, a deepfake video of Nirmala Sitharaman falsely endorsing a fictitious investment program called InvestGPT has surfaced.
Cryptify Flows follows a similar pattern. Fraudsters once again cloned the Times of India website, falsely claiming Sitharaman, Narayana Murthy, and Sudha Murty jointly launched a government-supported platform. This fraudulent scheme promises daily payouts of ₹0.19 million and claims affiliations with the State Bank of India, Microsoft, and IBM.
India is witnessing increased deepfake-driven investment scams. The State Bank of India (SBI) has recently issued a public warning about deceptive videos falsely promoting a high-return investment platform purportedly backed by the bank.
BrokersView advises against engaging with these deceptive platforms. Investors should remain highly vigilant against videos and articles claiming endorsements of investment platforms from prominent figures.
