CySEC Flags 'Surgirux': Concerns Rise Over Tax Demands When Withdraw

The trading platform “Surgirux,” which was warned by the Cypriot financial regulator last month, has now closed its website and has temporarily disappeared. For the victims of this fake broker, its disappearance means the scammed funds can never be recovered.

According to an investigation by the BrokersView team, Surgirux had claimed to be licensed by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). However, on January 7, CySEC denied this claim through a warning notice.

“The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (‘CySEC’) wishes to inform investors that the following websites do not belong to an entity which has been granted an authorization for the provision of investment services and/or the performance of investment activities, as provided for in Article 5 of Law 87 (I)/2017.”

In other words, Surgirux has never obtained any financial license, and even falsely claimed to be licensed by a reputable regulator to swindle investors into believing that it is a trustworthy broker.

Surgirux's website was created in May 2024, and the investor Ivan unfortunately fell into the trap of this fraudulent trading platform that summer.

Ivan said he signed up for a Surgirux account on the recommendation of someone, and out of trust, he did not check the broker's license in person and deposited about 90,000 USDT on the platform.

In September 2024, Ivan failed to withdraw and received a tax notice.

“I received a notification allegedly from "AMINABank Swiss" with a requirement to pay a tax as a non-resident of Switzerland to complete the transaction. ”

The victim double-checked the domain name and other information of the email sender and realized that it was a scam.

Meanwhile, his withdrawal request was continually delayed, repeatedly displaying the status 'processing' without any resolution. Even the customer service team at Surgirux failed to respond.

After a few months, Ivan logged into his Surgirux account again and found that his balance was still there but could not be withdrawn.

The Surgirux website is no longer accessible, and the scammer transitorily disappeared from the scene. The fraudsters behind these fake trading platforms may be secretly targeting people's wallets again with a new name and a new website.
